What are the benefits of owning a Give Node?

A node refers to a fundamental unit or element within a network or data structure. It can represent different entities such as devices, computers, servers, or even data points. Each node has a unique address or identifier, allowing them to send and receive data across the network. Nodes are interconnected to form a network to communicate with each other, exchange information, and perform various functions within the network.

At Lemonaide, we believe in the power of using blockchain technology to drive positive change. Lemonaide is a for-profit company that interacts with the Give blockchain, a decentralized blockchain designed for supporting non-profit organizations. The Give blockchain is a platform that allows individuals to make direct donations to non-profit charities securely and transparently. Lemonaide interacts with the Give blockchain infrastructure to facilitate fundraising for charities on the Lemonaide platform. The Give blockchain offers the Give community members an opportunity to earn GIVE digital rewards through Give Nodes. By donating to nonprofits through Lemonaide users can earn GIVE digital rewards from the blockchain as a form of recognition and appreciation for their good actions. These rewards could be in the form of tokens or other digital assets that can be redeemed or donated within the Lemonaide ecosystem.

Give nodes are an essential component and product from the Lemonaide platform, designed to optimize and streamline the fundraising process for non-profit organizations. These nodes serve as the backbone of the infrastructure, ensuring the efficient flow of donations and data within the decentralized system. Nodes power the Lemonaide community, allowing collaboration, transparency, and secure transactions. Operating on the Give blockchain, they validate transactions, reward donors, and showcase the impact of contributions, providing the foundation for trust and empowerment.

The Lemonaide platform delivers ease of use with transparency and accuracy. 100% of the donations go directly to the charity of choice with no in-between handling of donations. How do I set up my Give node on VPS?

What’s a VPS and why does it matter?

A Virtual Private Server is a virtual computer that people can rent for a fixed monthly price.

A VPS provider takes a large, powerful computer and splits it into smaller, less powerful virtual computers. People can customize their computer based on the needs of the node network.

Running a BlockBot or Node requires a stable internet connection and enough computing resources to run the software. Rather than having to buy a computer and dedicate it to running a single BlockBot or Node, a license owner can rent a VPS as a computer to use.

A good VPS provider can provide up to 100% guaranteed uptime.

It is often more cost-effective to rent a VPS, rather than spend the money to buy a dedicated machine for each BlockBot and Node. Pricing can vary based on the provider, but a reputable provider can offer much better uptime than hosting at home. Some BlockBot owners may have a bad internet connection or inconsistent power, so using a VPS may be the best option for them.

How do I set up my Give node on VPS?

Step 1:

  • Create a Vultr account. A Vultr account will require an email and password.

* If you step away from your computer for too long, Vultr will log you out and ask you to sign into your account again. You will continue where you left off.

Step 2:

  • Upload your credit card information to pay for a server. You can choose to either deposit funds here or link your credit card to your account. You can also pay with PayPal or Alipay by clicking these options in the left-hand column.
  • Verify your email address. It was sent to the email you used to create a Vultr account. If you didn’t get it, click the link in the orange box that says “Click here to send a verification email.”

Step 3:

  • On the products page, click or hover over the blue plus circle in the top right corner to deploy a new server.

Step 4:

  • Select the server of your choice. Cloud Compute should be sufficient in most cases.
  • Choose your preferred technology for storage and CPU. Regular Performance should be adequate for running a node.
  • Select a server location. Typically, the server location closest to you is the best option to choose.
  • Choose a server type. For this guide, we will be using Debian 11×64.
  • Choose a server size. The $5 per month server is a sufficient option for most cases. You can always upgrade this at a later date.
  • Choose if you want to add auto backups. This is not required, and we recommend turning it off. It is automatically turned on so remember to turn it off by clicking the “On” switch to turn it to the “Off” button.
  • It’s not necessary to add any additional features, SSH Keys. You can if you desire. Give your server a logical hostname/label and click Deploy Now. This will begin the setup process for your server. It should only take 5–10 mins.

Step 5:

  • Once your server has been provisioned, you will be able to access the server details via the Products tab in the Vultr management panel.
  • Click on the server’s name. This will take you to the management page for that specific server. It is on this page that we can get the required details to log in.
  • On the “Products” page, you will see the different server instances you have started, you will need to wait until it says “Running” under the “Status” column.
  • Click on the server’s name (what you name it during setup) and it will take you to the server Home Screen.
  • On this page, find the username and password, they will be needed. The username by default is “root”, copy the password by clicking the icon next to the hidden phrase.
  • To open the console, click the computer icon on the top right of the page.
  • The console will display one of two things:
    1. A bunch of words, if you get this press enter and it should ask you to log in.
    2. A prompt to log in. To open the console, click the computer icon in the top right of the page
  • To log in, enter “root” as the username and press enter. For the password, there is a small gray button with an arrow on the left side of the terminal (example below.) Click that button and it will display a list of icons. Click on the clipboard icon and paste the password you copied earlier under the testVPN page into the text box that appears. Click the “paste” button that appeared in the test box.

*IMPORTANT* The password you pasted into the text box will disappear, but it will NOT display anything in the console, this is by design. Close the icon list by clicking the arrow button again, then press enter. If everything was done correctly, you should see a message that says you have logged in correctly.

  • You will know you are logged in correctly when you see “Last login: [today’s date] “ in the console.
  • Paste the following command:

    bash ./linux_amd64.sh -b give

  • You may be prompted to install additional code to run the node properly, this will show up like “[Y/N]”, press “Y” and hit enter.
  • You may not be prompted to install additional code to run the node properly, this is fine! You get to move on without an extra step.
  • You may be prompted to install additional code to run the node properly, this will show up like “[Y/N]”, press “Y” and hit enter.
  • You may not be prompted to install additional code to run the node properly, this is fine! You get to move on without an extra step.
  • A purple/pink screen might be displayed, informing you that you are installing the node software. Hit enter. Have your account information close by because it will ask you for the account name and password.
  • You will then be prompted to enter your email address for your Lemonaide account, your account password, and a name for this node. (We suggest naming it the same name as you did your same name during the Vultr setup.)
  • You will see the progress of the installation, then another purple/pink screen will display informing you that the installation is finished. Press enter and your node should start! You will see an interface that will update every 30 minutes that will inform you of the node’s progress, status, and other node statistics.

Congratulations! You have set up your Give node.

Learn about voting!

Voting through a node refers to a process where individuals or entities participate in decision-making by casting their votes through a network node. In the context of blockchain technology, a node is a computer software or device that maintains a copy of the blockchain and participates in the consensus mechanism. By voting through a node, participants can contribute to the governance and decision-making processes of a decentralized blockchain network, such as validating transactions or proposing and approving changes to the network’s protocol or rules.

What does "Redeem my GIVE Rewards" mean?

When you click on “Redeem”, you are converting the GIVE Rewards that you’ve earned through actions on the Lemonaide platform to an ERC20 GIVE token. Sometimes this is known as “bridging” or “minting” of tokens in web3. The GIVE Rewards are bridged from native layer 2 to Ethereum layer 1, which means the GIVE token can be sold, swapped, or purchased on a crypto exchange. You can also donate the GIVE tokens to a nonprofit on the Lemonaide platform. This becomes the lifetime of givingcycle we support, where a one-time purchase of a GIVE Node earns you GIVE Rewards and those rewards can be redeemed for GIVE Tokens to then donate with.

Nonprofits

How does Lemonaide support nonprofits?

Lemonaide is a for-profit company that empowers non-profit organizations by leveraging the Give blockchain, offering an additional advantage of GIVE digital rewards. Lemonaide sponsors and raises funds for 501c3 companies. We aren’t involved with any of the projects, though sometimes team members like to participate. Most donations will be made in Cryptocurrency to the charities we support, in either Ethereum, Bitcoin or Gala for now. We have just launched the node software, and it is intended that node owners will be able to set aside a portion of their distribution to the charity of their choice on Lemonaide’s platform.

How does Lemonaide benefit nonprofits?

Lemonaide is a web3 tech company that supports nonprofits, the giving community, and those seeking a purpose. Through our blockchain-based products and services nonprofits can provide better transparency, quickly accept donations in all currencies, and easily manage donations. Users and donors are able to see where their funds are going, how they are being used, and get rewarded for giving.

What are the first steps for onboarding nonprofits?

Step 1: Fill out this simple non-profit application.

  • *If you have any questions before applying, you can reach out to support@lemonaide.co  and our team can help get your application process started.

Step 2: Once submitted, our application will be reviewed by our team.

Step 3: If you are accepted, we will schedule an initial call to go over your desired goals and next steps, answer any questions, and gather some information to help set up your dashboard.

Do you charge nonprofits to be listed on Lemonaide?

There is no initial cost to be listed as a nonprofit on the Lemonaide platform. However, we recommend purchasing a Node, which is a one-time cost of $1,000 for non-profit organizations. There is also a fee to offramp Crypto into a fiat currency that is established by our payment processors, and we do not take a cut of the nonprofit’s funds.

How is owning a node beneficial to my nonprofit?

Give Smart Nodes support and run on the Give blockchain by independently confirming transactions using advanced cryptography. Give Smart Node operators earn GIVE rewards, a Bitcoin-like reward, for supporting the Give Blockchain. A Smart Node is a full license that may earn maximum rewards.

What does a partnership with Lemonaide obligate us to do, how often do we have to renew that? Do we need to sign agreements?

Yes. We will have our partnership agreements provided by our legal counsel.

Being a Lemonaide partner obligates a nonprofit to display our organization as a partner of theirs where they include partnerships ie. website, social media, etc. We will require the nonprofit to update their impact tracking in their dashboard at least monthly for donors, which would include numbers and photos that reflect impact made that month.

How do you promote nonprofits?

Each nonprofit has a personal page on our website. You will be featured on the Lemonaide website and social media as a highlighted nonprofit. We also will include some of your provided information in our Newsletter. Your organization will also be included on our donations page.
